January 22, 2005. My wife and I decided to book a trade to Daytona Beach for a “Vacation from the Kids”. Somewhere along the way, we decided that we really didn’t want a vacation FROM the kids, but that we wanted another vacation with the kids. So, we packed the kids up and hit the airport. That’s when the fun began. The blizzard hit at 10 am, our flight was scheduled for 10:30. Fortunately we were able to get on the plane and wait for deicing. Eight hours later, after ALL the local hotel rooms were booked solid, a snow plow came out to get our plane back to the terminal since the airport was closing.
Imagine our delight at sharing a night in the Philadelphia airport with our 3 year old and 6-month old! Our daughter delighted at watching the snow plows move and melt all the snow—giggling at the sight of this at 10pm, 11pm, 12am, 1am, 2am…Skipping past the rest of the fun at the airport, 24-hours later, a VERY tired family arrived in Daytona. On arriving, we realized Daytona was not the most enjoyable place for children. We called Interval International, explained how much fun we were having so far and they promptly set us up in a beautiful timeshare in Orlando. We spent the remainder of the week at Disney, watching our kids delight at all the sights and sounds. A nightmare trip was turned into a fairy tale, watching our girls enjoy every second of the parks and more.
p.s. We knew it was a great vacation, when our three year old commented that Mickey must be a very important person if it takes that long to get there to go see him.
