During Christmas of 2008, I needed to get away. I mean away from everything. I work a stressful job and had worked a lot of overtime in 2008. The stress of the holidays was also taking its toll. My kids were out of school for the week of Christmas. On short notice, we gathered our extended family and celebrated Christmas at home a week early. We already had our bags packed and headed out for Panama City Beach, leaving the freezing cold Indiana temperatures behind us.
We enjoyed the resort, Landmark Holiday Beach Resort, which is on the beach and features an indoor swimming pool and hot tub that have a glass wall that overlooks the beach. Our unit also had a balcony off the master bedroom and living room that overlooked the beach. We strolled on the beach, used the grills the resort provided, and enjoyed the cookies and hot cocoa the resort had every day. My son and I won the horseshoe competition, and were rewarded with free sundaes. Everyone at the resort was cheerful and seemed so relaxed, which was a great contrast to what we had left behind.
On Christmas day, I woke the family after I had prepared a pancake breakfast. I then led them down to the beach. We opened our presents on the beach! The temperature was in the 70's all but one week. We had a blast. My kids loved the Wireless Internet, the beach, the pool, and all of the activities the resort offered. I loved that it was an escape from the hustle and bustle. Holidays are a time for family. I think getting to spend time together like we did just brought us closer together. I hope everyone gets to experience what we did.
