With mountains to traverse, lakes to fish, forests to trek, beaches to comb, an ocean to explore, wineries to visit and an interesting history to discover, there are countless vacation activities to enjoy and adventures to be sought.

Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, on the Pacific Ocean, offer plenty to do and see. Victoria is located on Vancouver Island and is this province's capital. Visit Victoria and Nanaimo and then head to the west coast of the island and discover Tofino and Long Beach. On the islands you will find rainforests, meadows, beaches, marshes, and old-growth fir and cedar forests. Home to many artists and artisans, galleries, studios and shops offering locally created treasures are abundant, especially on the Gulf Islands. While visiting the area during the spring or summer, make sure to take a whale watching tour. Take a ride out on the ocean with a trained tour operator and experience up close and personal the enchantment of the whales, dolphins, sea lions and other marine life. Comb the beaches, bird watch, storm watch, kayak, fish or pamper yourself at one of the spas. Explore these interesting and unique islands and you may never want to leave.

Vancouver is British Columbia's largest city and a favorite destination for travelers from all over the world. This is no surprise as the city is one of the prettiest cities in the world. Vancouver, BC boasts a moderate temperature year round. Here you can be on the beach downtown and 30 minutes later be skiing in the mountains. Explore the arts and culture of this beautiful city or spend a day at Stanley Park. Take a drive up the stunning Sea to Sky Highway and visit Whistler, named the official alpine skiing venue for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2010.

Located in central British Columbia from the Cariboo Mountains to the Pacific Ocean is the area known as the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast. Encompassing thousands of lakes, rivers and of course the Pacific Ocean coastline, there are ample opportunities for fishing, boating, camping, swimming or kayaking. If canoeing or kayaking is your passion you absolutely must paddle the legendary Bowron Lake Provincial Park Canoe Circuit. If you prefer to drive, you can drive the original Cariboo Wagon Road on the historic Gold Rush Trail.

Head inland and discover the sun-drenched Okanagan Valley. Famous for its orchards, vineyards, golf courses, ski resorts, lakes and four season fun, activities and adventure are in abundance in this popular tourist region. With world class skiing in the winter and sizzling hot summers with many lakes (including Okanagan Lake stretching 135 km) to jump into and cool off, it is no wonder this area is considered a four season playground. Kelowna offers one of the longest and driest seasons in Canada and is a favorite for those who love golf. This region is also home to world class vintners and wineries. Days can be spent just touring all the different wineries. Make sure to check to see if there is a wine festival being celebrated while you are visiting. The Okanagan offers four wine festivals a year. Festivals and wine tasting are fun but even if drinking wine is not a passion many of the wineries have restaurants that serve incredible food and offer up one-of-kind views of the vineyard, valley, and more often than not Okanagan Lake. If skiing is your passion then you must ski at Big White. People from all over the world visit Kelowna and spend their winter vacations at Big White. All of this and a resident infamous lake monster named the Ogopogo. It would be difficult at best to have a boring holiday while visiting the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia.

Further east is the Kootenay Rockies. The area includes five different, spectacular mountain ranges, including the Canadian Rockies. Altogether, these create breathtaking mountain and river valleys that offer an assortment of recreational activities and vacation opportunities. With 75 provincial parks and 4 national parks, there is plenty of outdoor recreation offered. Fishing, hiking, camping, biking, golf, skiing, dog sledding and guest ranches are just a few of the activities that can be found here. This area is aptly known as British Columbia's Mountain Playground. There are mountain parks, vineyards, hot springs, ranchlands and ghost towns to visit.

From sophisticated cities to breathtaking scenery, with its rich history and variety of activities, you will want to return to BC year after year for your vacation.
